I LOVE that you can create such an elegant, heirloom style baby blanket with a simple one-row repeat pattern!
This pattern is not my own. It’s a beautiful design by Affinity for Yarn. Visit her post here to get the pattern: Crochet Shell Stitch Pink Baby Blanket. Below I’ll tell you how I’ve adapted it to use worsted weight yarn.

My aim was to complete a version of this blanket with just one skein of Caron One Pound yarn. Unfortunately I underestimated how much yarn that beautiful shell stitch border would take! I completed 74 rows of shell stitch, one round of the single crochet border, and one round of the double crochet border before I ran out of yarn. I needed to tap into a second skein to finish the second double crochet border row and that gorgeous shell stitch border!

Below I will tell you both what I did and what I suggest you do to complete this blanket with just one skein.
Materials
- 1-2 skeins of Caron One Pound yarn in Soft Pink or color of your choice
- Size J/10 crochet hook
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Finished Size
With more than one skein: 32″x38″
With just one skein: 32″x32″
Notes
I strongly suggest using stitch markers at the end of each row so there is no guesswork involved. This makes for wonderful mindless crocheting!
You could try sizing up the crochet hook to a K or even L hook if you crochet tightly.

Instructions for if you like the size of the blanket I’d created (32″x38″) and don’t mind tapping into a second skein of one pound yarn: Follow Heather’s instructions as written, but use materials listed above, and work 74 rows of shell stitch. Move on to border as written.
To complete the pattern with just one skein of Caron One Pound yarn: Work 60 rows of shell stitch, then move on to border as written.
If you love the timeless look of shell stitch, this Timeless Lacy Shell Crochet Blanket over at Pattern Princess is just gorgeous, and I love the colors she chose!
Pin for later!

How many foundation chains did you do?
I followed the Affinity for Yarn pattern, so ch 103 to start. Enjoy!
I’m so happy you did this alternative pattern with the worsted weight yarn. I had admired the original with the baby yarn, but think this one will work better for me. Thanks again!
You’re so welcome! YES, I love the original pattern but wanted to use worsted weight myself – enjoy!
