Crochet a men’s prayer shawl for charity! This one-row repeat shawl pattern is perfect for working up with your prayer shawl group. Featuring half double crochet stitches in the back loop, this pattern produces a lovely fabric with cozy ribbing.

The yarn used in this pattern is a dense acrylic, Furls Wander, so the shawl feels weighted and extra cozy. The stitch is super drapey; the stitches seem to expand when the shawl is worn.

This shawl comes in two sizes, and each size requires about the same amount of yarn, so you can decide if you want a longer, thinner rectangle, or vice versa.

I hope you enjoy this pattern!
Thank you very much to Furls Crochet for providing the Wander Yarn and Streamline Metal Hook featured in this pattern.

Ch 254 (221).
Row 1: Hdc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. <253 (220) hdcs.>
Row 2: Hdc in the blo of each st across. Ch 1 and turn. <253 (220) hdcs.>
To hdc in the blo, you’ll begin your hdc in the same was as usual. Simply yarn over.

Then insert your hook in the middle of the v at the top of the stitch, underneath only the loop furthest from you.

Pull up a loop.

Yo and pull through all three loops on your hook.

Continue across. This produces the lovely ridge you see right underneath the working row!

Rows 3-50 (57): Rep Row 2.
Cut yarn, fasten off, and weave in ends.

Dana. Having problems with ends. I am making the man’s Shaw. I have been crocheting many years.
And totally confused. I am seeing 2 stitches together on end. Why?
Hi Jo Ann, oh that’s an interesting question. Did you check out the video tutorial by chance? Sometimes the edge stitch pulls a little tighter and looks a little different. I definitely recommend using stitch markers on the first and last stitch of each row to take out the guesswork. Let me know if that helps! Warmly, Dana
