Pair panels of granny stitches with Jacob’s ladder stitches and work up the Midnight Sunset Crochet Baby Blanket! This two-row repeat is easier than it looks and totally memorizable!
I absolutely love the Jacob’s ladder stitch and used it in one of my favorite designs, the Jacob’s Colorful Cables Baby Blanket. I thought that awesome, textural stitch would look so cool alongside sections of the classic granny stitch, and I’m very pleased with the results!
I used merino wool yarn for the first time, and the blanket is so soft and so warm! I paired a deep purple with a bright orange, plus a variegated that magically featured both those tones, for a vivid palette. It could even work for a Halloween baby with all that orange and purple!
I originally worked up this blanket in white, gray, and pink, but realized about a third of the way in that I didn’t have enough yarn to finish! Here’s a picture of that palette for additional inspiration:
The pattern is finished with one of my all-time favorite borders, the camel stitch border. So super cozy!

Turning ch never counts as a st.
To adjust the width of this blanket, ch a multiple of 26 + 13.

Connect your ch-12 loops. Starting at the bottom of your first column of loops, pull the second loop from the bottom through the bottom loop. Next, pull the third loop from the bottom through the second loop. Work upward until you’ve connected every loop! They will look like this:

Camel Stitch Border
Border is worked rs facing.
Rnd 1: [Sc across. In the corner, work (sc, ch 2, sc). As you work along the side, aim to place 4 scs for every 3 row-ends. In the corner, work (sc, ch 2, sc)] twice. When you reach your starting corner, work (sc, ch 2, sl st join). <Not including marked corners, all four sides should have 116 sts.>
Rnd 2: Ch 1, hdc back into the ch-2 corner. Hdc in the back third loop of each st across. Note this will be a little tight in this rnd, but gets easier in the next rnds! [In the ch-2 corner sp, work (hdc, ch 2, hdc). Hdc in the back third loop of each st across] three times. When you reach your starting corner, work (hdc, ch 2, sl st join). <Not including marked corners, all four sides should have 118 sts.>
TIP: It can be easy to accidentally work extra stitches around your ch-2 corners because it may look like there are more back loops to work into than there actually are! I like to place stitch markers in the back third loop of each hdc worked in the corners for a total of 8 markers. Then you will be able to undoubtedly see which stitches flank those corner spaces. I hope this tip helps!
Rnds 3-6: Rep Rnd 2. You should increase by 2 sts along each edge of the blanket with each rnd. At the end of the final rnd, invisibly join to your first st of the rnd. If you don’t know how to invisibly join, I like this video tutorial from Bella Coco. <At the end of Rnd 6, not including marked corners, all four sides should have 124 sts.>
Cut yarn, fasten off, and weave in ends.
