Play with post stitches and complete the Woven Cables Panel-Style Crochet Baby Blanket! This baby blanket features the mini basketweave stitch, crochet cables, and the rice stitch for a lovely heirloom gift full of texture!

I love a good panel-style blanket! This is my third. You can see the other two patterns here:

It’s easy to get a little burnt out working up an entire blanket in one stitch pattern. Panel blankets are a joy because I still choose easy-to-memorize stitches, but after 30 rows or so, you join a new color and learn a new stitch!
I hope you find this pattern so fun! Especially the cables!!

Border

Border Notes: In this border, we are working front post double crochets to get those great ridges! In general, we are always working fpdcs into fpdcs, and dcs into dcs, to create the ridges. Keep this in mind if you are ever not sure which stitch comes next in the rnd! There will always be 3 dcs in each corner.
I love the simplicity of this border! Since you are alternating fpdcs and dcs, the border may curl slightly towards you. Steam the border when finished to get it to lie flat, or you can try a border that alternates fpdc and bpdc sts instead. This border tutorial from Daisy Farm Crafts is a good option.
I like to mark the first and last sts of each rnd of the border because it’s easy to accidentally add stitches by working into sl st joins or ch sts. So, you’ll use 5 stitch markers as you work the border of your blanket: one in each corner plus the extra marker at the end of the rnd.
Quick note about the bottom row in Rnd 1: if you’re working the border on your starting ch side and thinking that you only have 89 sts, check your slip knot! That knot can be so tight it hides the very first st of the starting ch. Loosen it up and you’ll be good to go!
Border is worked rs facing.
Rnd 1: Using Color D (White), pull up a loop in the upper right-hand corner of your blanket. Ch 1 to attach. Work (sc, pm, sc) in the same st. (Working 2 scs in the starting corner keeps the seam in the corner.) [Sc across, but somewhere in the middle increase once. In the corner work (3 scs, making sure you pm in the middle sc). As you work along the side, aim for 31 sts in the edges of the top and bottom panels and 29 sts into the edge of the middle panel since the middle panel is shorter. In the corner work (3 scs, making sure you pm in the middle sc)] twice. When you reach your starting corner, instead of 3 scs, work (1 sc, pm, then sl st join to your marked first st of the rnd). <Excluding marked corners, you should have 91 sts along each edge of the blanket.> Ch 2.
Rnd 2: Work (dc, pm, dc). [Dc across. In the marked corner, work (3 dcs, pm in the middle dc)] 4 times. When you reach your starting corner, instead of 3 dcs, work (dc, pm, sl st join). <Excluding marked corners, you should have 93 sts along each edge of the blanket.> Ch 2.
Rnd 3: Work (dc, pm, dc). [*Fpdc in the next st, dc in the next st, rep from * across until you have one st left before your marked corner. Fpdc. In the corner, work (3 dcs, pm in the middle dc)] 4 times. When you reach your starting corner, instead of 3 dcs work (dc, pm, sl st join). <Excluding marked corners, you should have 95 sts along each edge of the blanket.> Ch 2.
Rnd 4: Work (dc, pm, dc). [Work dc in dc sts, work fpdc in fpdc sts to next corner st. In the corner, work (3 dcs, pm in the middle dc)] 4 times. When you reach your starting corner, instead of 3 dcs work (dc, pm, sl st join). <Excluding marked corners, you should have 97 sts along each edge of the blanket.> Ch 2.
Rnd 5: Work (dc, pm, dc). [*Fpdc in the next dc. Then work dc in in dc sts, work fpdc in fpdc sts until there is one dc left before your marked corner. Fpdc. In the corner, work (3 dcs, pm in the middle dc)] 4 times. When you reach your starting corner, instead of 3 dcs work (dc, pm, sl st join). <Excluding marked corners, you should have 99 sts along each edge of the blanket.> Ch 2.
Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 4. <Excluding marked corners, you should have 101 sts along each edge of the blanket.> Ch 1.
Rnd 7: Work (sc, pm, sc). [Sc across. In the marked corner, work (3 scs, pm in the middle sc)] 4 times. When you reach your starting corner, instead of 3 scs, work 1 sc, sl st join. <Excluding marked corners, you should have 103 sts along each edge of the blanket.>
