Misty Dawn Crochet Baby Blanket

Learn to crochet a textural, cabled baby blanket with gorgeous ombre color changes and amazing softness! The Misty Dawn Crochet Baby Blanket pattern is an easy-to-memorize four-row repeat with enough variety in stitches to really keep things interesting!

I love the texture of crocheted cables, and these thin cables are super easy to learn, even if you’ve never done cabling before.

The bobblet stitches, or mini bobbles, are subtle, but add a fun effect as well.

The waistcoat stitch is very popular right now for its knit-like appearance! In my opinion it looks nicest when worked in the round, so it is perfect for a blanket border!

The whole blanket comes together beautifully with that amazing ombre yarn!!

I hope you enjoy this pattern!

I love memorizable crochet patterns, and the hardest part of this pattern to memorize, in my opinion, is working the bobblet stitches. For a simpler variation, you could replace those stitches with single crochets. Another trick? Put a stitch marker on the front of the blanket near the bobblet stitches as a reminder.

I’ve included traditional instructions for the pattern as well as shorthand in italics. Here are examples of what crochet shorthand looks like:

  • Sc 1 means single crochet in the next stitch.
  • Sc 2 means single crochet in the next two stitches.
  • 2 sc means work two single crochets in the next stitch.

Turning ch never counts as a st.

To adjust the width of this blanket, ch a multiple of 14 + 13.

Waistcoat Stitch Border

Border is worked rs-facing. During Rnd 1, as you work along the sides of your blanket, aim to place about 3 sts for every 4 row-ends for a border that lies flat. To do this you could simply skip the bobblet rows.

Rnd 1: [Sc across, in the corner work (sc, ch 1, pm**, sc)] four times ending the final rep at **, sl st join. <Excluding marked corners, you should have 82 sts across the top and bottom of the blanket, and 92 sts along the sides>

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc back into the marked ch-1 corner sp, (working backwards in this way keeps our seam neatly in the corner), *waistcoat in each st across, in the corner work (sc, ch 1, pm**, sc); rep from * around the blanket, ending the final rep at **, sl st join. <Excluding marked corners, you should have 84 sts across the top and bottom of the blanket, and 94 sts along the sides>

Rnds 3-7: Rep Rnd 2. <At the end of Rnd 7, excluding marked corners, you should have 94 sts across the top and bottom of the blanket, and 104 sts along the sides>

Cut yarn, fasten off, and weave in ends.
